1. Napoleon does not deserve his leadership position. He treats everyone terribly with threats and scares. The many crimes he commits against his own comrades range from seizing nine puppies to somehow educate them as his band of killer guard dogs to forcing confessions from innocent animals and then having them killed right in front of all the other animals.

Napoleon is named after the famed French emperor, but he represents Russia's Joseph Stalin in the novel. Like Stalin, Napoleon ruthlessly has his opposition killed or executed, and he double-deals with his neighbors Pilkington and Frederick.
3. George Orwell's use of animals to satirize the faults of Russian Communism was very effective. It gave a funny but yet serious demonstration that was easier and less complicated to understand and relate to. I personally enjoy the fact of the animals, it helps me understand the novel more easily.
Napoleon does not deserve his leadership position on Animal Farm. Before he came to power, the animals were living in harmony. There was a certain peace that was taken away when Napoleon forced himself as leader. Nobody elected him, he just kind of took the position despite the harmony that existed. Napoleon actually made things worse than Jones did. He overworked and underfed his animals to the point of slavery. His leadership only benefited the pigs, but not the common good.

Without the humans, there would have been no reason to overtake them. Without boxer, the pigs’ work would not have been completed as quickly. So, every animal is important in the story because they each provide an insight on the communist agenda and thus, becoming a very important role. I suppose that Boxer is the most loyal which is why he could be seen as the most important. He also, personally, killed more people than anyone else which was a great asset. However, if the story did not have him in it, the story would still be the same.
George Orwell’s use of animals to satirize the faults of Russian Communism was effective. First of all, I think he used animals as a portrayal because everyone was acting like animals. It was also a very simple way to get his point across while providing a good story. Honestly, I probably learned more about the Soviet Union in this book than in history class. People reading the book were probably horrified at what was happening in the plot, but could not see it happening to them. This book brought to light the terrors of the Soviet Union and did it perfectly.

He is the exact reason that the farm was destroyed. He is responsible for killing boxer. If it was up to me Napoleon should be burned at the stake.
Boxer is the most important animal on the farm. Boxer is no just a powerhouse in the fields. He also is a source of inspiration for all the animals on the farm. If that is not enough he is also a dedicated patriot to the leaders on the farm. There is no other animal like him. He is definitely the most important animal on the farm.

Orwell’s use of the animals was very good in my opinion. For me it was very easy to understand who everyone represented. For example Boxer as the working class. Another great example is Old Major. He is not in the book very long and I easily picked him out as Karl Marx.

He works the hardest on the farm, his response to every problem was “I will work harder”. Boxer was very brave and all the animals looked up to him as inspiration to help them get through bad days. Without boxer in this book no animals I think would of worked as hard as they did.
It was effective because Orwell combines political and artistic purpose to voice his beliefs. He tried to put It as it was very likely that the lust for power felt by those who are cleverer and more skilful than the others turn revolutionary enthusiasm into the opposite. The ideal shatters since what happens in the end turns out to be in sharp contrast with what the Revolution was all about. The lesson Orwell was trying to set was that it is clearly not corrupting effect of [power when exercised by communists.
I would say Napoleon does not deserve his leadership position because he uses fear from the animals instead of respect from the animals. Napoleon should not kill everyone that does something wrong because he makes many mistakes and he is honored for them. He honors himself for doing nothing and make sure everything good is in his name. All the bad things that happened is to blame Snowball for it. He does get them to follow orders and do their work, but he should it make it where they are not suffering. Napoleon should help all the animals out instead of those so that they work in his favor. All the animals are going to be dead except for the dogs and pigs and no one will be there to work anymore if he does not change to help them.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Boxer is the most important animal on the farm because he does all of the work plus more. He is always pushing himself and going the extra mile to do more work. His mottos is that he will work harder. He is the only animal to do more than everybody else. When something goes wrong, he says he will get up earlier to start working. He knows what has to happen for all of the lower animals to get proper treatment with heating or more food in winter where it is more scarce. If he did not help as much as he did, it would take years before the other animals did the same amount without him and they would truly suffer.He realizes he is not going to be as strong as he was in previous years with less food and more hours worked. That for the first time he looks forward to retiring and enjoying his time because he knows he has little time left. He wants the lower animals to get a head start and start to make progress by doing what he can before he is gone.
I would say George Orwell’s use of animals to satirize the faults of Russian Communism was truly effective. He did it in a way where it was intriguing to read because it had to with animals and not people. He definitely showcased how Communism of Russia was and how the people of the lower class were treated. The leaders doing the talking part, saying who can have what and make themselves be at their best with fine treatment. The lower class/working class had to work more and get poor treatment in return. People were probably more interested in learning about the Russian Communism with animals instead of a regular book with humans and their history. I disagree that Napoleon deserves his leadership position. He is getting his own way or no way. He is very terrible to the other animals and does not respect them. He should treat others how he wants to be treated. He scares them and tells them terrible things that he is going to do to them. He is responsible for killing Boxer. He is a murder and commits many crimes.
2. Boxer is the most important animal on the farm he motivate the animals and they look up to him. He is strong and stands up for the animals at their worst and tells them everything is going to be okay. He rebuilds the windmill for the animals and does a lot for the animals.

ReplyDeleteI think that Boxer is some what important to the story, he is one of the few that can carry the boulders out of the quarry by himself. He blindly follows orders from the pigs, helped build the windmill and helped rebuild the windmill after it fell down.

Napoleon deserves and does not deserve the leadership position. He works hard to cheat for it and hold it with fear by his side. He is too selfish to be a good leader. A good leader works with the people he is leading. He barks orders from the back during the battle of windmill. Snowball would have been a good leader because he worked with the animals. Napoleon is good at making them work and brainwashing them. He is not a good leader but a good and very deceiving dictator.

1. I highly disagree with this statement. Napoleon has done nothing, but kill, starve, and slave labor his fellow comrades. Instead of engaging his comrades he brainwashes them into his evil plans and when things do not go as planned he threatens that Jones will return or Napoleon will order the execution of someone. Napoleon does not deserve his position mainly because he is a coward. He and the other pigs come up with 7 commandments that must be followed by everyone, by the middle of the story all pigs have broken the majority of them. Napoleon as a leader is supposed to bring hope, but instead he brings fear.
ReplyDelete2. I disagree. I believe that Snowball is the most important character in Animal Farm. He was convicted of all crimes and Napoleon brainwashed the animals to believe him. Napoleon did not want to share power so he knew Snowball was a threat. Snowball did mighty fine in the first battle. Don't get me wrong, Boxer is very important and useful, but he is not intelligent and he is a follower, Boxer doesn't have a voice of his own and repeats what leaders want him to say. Boxer just represents the common workforce as we do not have a voice compared to political leaders, we are the labor workers. And that is what Boxer represent.

Yes, mostly because if he is ever questioned his reply could be "It is just a book of animals living on a farm" certain things in animal farm represent or symbolize some type of soviet revolutionary. He uses great examples and uses of satire that represent soviet time objects or meanings. Even Orwell's decision on animals and choosing how gets to be leaders, obviously the pigs, because they are intelligent and the workers are horses because they aren't as smart.

Napoleon was a ruthless ruler with greed and an alcohol addiction being just icing on the cake. Whether he deserves it or not brings into question his methods of leading the farm and the honesty towards his animals. His methods of leadership included but were not limited to; killing fellow comrades, breaking every single one of the commandments, changing the commandments to cover his ham, creating propaganda based on his relations, banishing animals from the farm, hoarding the wealth amassed from the slave labor of the other animals, and so on. This book simplified the situation in Russia during that time, it was easy to see the basis of communism through the faults of animalism. ReplyDeleteDefinitely no, he does not deserve his leadership because of his selfishness, impertinence, disloyal and dominating behaviour. At the very beginning Napoleon appears as utterly corrupt opportunist, he lives peaceful life, he does not call for conflicts. He quietly trains dogs which become his private army or guard. He uses them for expelling Snowball from the farm after windmill problem and then for forcing animals to work hard and suffer, any animal that stands up against the Napoleon will be killed or caught by his private army the “little puppies”. Nevertheless the Napoleon appears as good leader at the beginning of the book with good ideas later he becomes a giant villain.

He bends the law and gives himself and the other pigs unfair treatment. The other animals are treated extremely poor which is the main reason why Napoleon does not deserve his leadership position. To me, a leader is someone who puts others before him/herself. Napoleon does the exact opposite and always thinks of his own benefits. It is also extremely important for a leader to follow their own laws. By the end of the book, every single one of the laws has been broken by the pigs. If a leader does not follow the laws it is not fair to say that anyone else should have to.

Unlike the pigs, Boxer’s motive is to truly make the farm a better place and to do his part. He does this by working hard in everything that he is assigned and never giving up. This is reflected in the saying which he repeats many times throughout the novel, “I will work harder”. However, Boxer is so loyal to the point where he is willing to do whatever he is told, good or bad. It made me frustrated while reading the novel that Boxer did not have a voice of his own because he is such a sweet character and never wanted to hurt anyone. Boxer represents those people in today's’ society who do whatever they are told and get taken advantage of for their loyalty. However, I still feel that Boxer is the most important animal on the farm because he teaches us the importance of having our own voice and not letting others take advantage of us.

Personally, I found reading about animals on a farm much more exciting then just reading a plain novel about Russian Communism. It forced the reader to think about the characters in a novel in a complex way and to learn more about Russian Communism as well. The satire that George Orwell included in this novel shows how much thought he must’ve put into this novel because every character and every event has a different message below their surfaces. As the reader, I enjoyed reading this novel because it was completely different than any other novel I have read. He made sure that every animal had a purpose and a different role in the story. These animals really helped illustrate what Russian Communism was like during this time.

In my opinion he was very successful in satirizing the faults of the Russian Communism. The animals he choose to represent the different aspects of the Communist Russia were extremely fitting and accurate. For example the way he used the pigs as leaders was fitting because pigs are actually smart animals. By using animals it makes i seem like a more innocent piece of writing.
