The character, Christopher is the kind of guy who does not lie and is loyal like a dog. He also does not like the colors brown and yellow. He explains in the novel he wrote “I like dogs. You always know what a dog is thinking. It has four moods. Happy, sad, cross and concentrating. Also, dogs are faithful and they do not tell lies because they cannot talk” (Haddon 4). This quote show us that he loves dogs because they are loyal and easy to read. For example when a girl is mad she won’t talk to you or she will scream her head of and rant. This is the exact opposite to the way he is with people.
His relationship with his dad and his school teacher Siobhan are close and he only trusts them two. His dad takes care of him and Siobhan. “It was 1:12 a.m. when Father arrived at the police station. I did not see him until 1:28 a.m. but I knew he was there because I could hear him”(Haddon 16). This shows how his father cares about him enough to fight for his son to get out of jail for something he didn’t mean to do.
Christopher is a reliable author for a great reason. He cannot lie which makes this novel a very credible novel. He continuously tells us that he cannot lie over and over again and if he can’t lie the you have to believe him.

Christopher Boone a unique 15 year old kid, has an interesting yet troublesome experience as an individual. As is it stated Christopher has a form of autism, however this does not change the big picture. Christopher is very intelligent and shows a great ability to see his strengths in subjects like math and science, and geography. A quote from the book: My name is Christopher John Francis Boone. I know all the countries of the world and their capital cities and every prime number up to 7,507.. In addition to Christophers intelligence he struggles with social issues for example not quite understanding facial expressions or certain emotions. For example a quote from the book Christopher says “And I don't know what some hardness, perhaps of eye means, and I'm not interested in faces.”
In my personal opinion i feel that Christopher is a reliable narrator for various reason. Christopher does indeed have autism, but is a super smart boy. However yes, he does have some strengths but also weaknesses. Why is he any different from a regular person not diagnosed with a problem like him? Everyone and strengths and weaknesses in that case Christopher is still reliable. In fact, in some cases he may even be more reliable because of his great intelligence.

ReplyDeleteChristopher is a person who is not very fond of changes, he likes things to go a certain way and when they do not this can lead to trouble for him. Some of the things that he dislikes includes, the colors brown and yellow, being touched, lies and there are many more things that Christopher dislikes. But Christopher also likes a lot of things such as dogs, wet and cold grass, the color red. Also he knows a lot of things that most people really don’t have an interest in knowing such as prime numbers in the beginning of the book it starts with “My name is Christopher John Francis Boone. I know all the countries of the world and their capital cities and every prime number up to 7,507.” And this is how he introduces himself and the way that he says it makes it sound like it is as important as his name. Also later on in the book he is talking about his name and says, “Mother used to say that it meant Christopher was a nice name because it was a story about being kind and helpful, but I do not want my name to mean a story about being kind and helpful. I want my name to mean me.” And this again shows that he wants words to just mean one thing and one thing only.

ReplyDeleteChristopher Boone is a very unique person, one of the characteristics that make him so unique is his amazing memory, specifically in random things and also including math. He constantly reminds us about how his prime numbers and all of the things that he can remember. Christopher says: “My name is Christopher John Francis Boone. I know all the countries of the world and their capital cities and every prime number up to 7,507” (Haddon 3). This quote shows him explaining how he remembers all of these things. It is very interesting to think that some people can think like that.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that christopher is a trustworthy narrator, I think he lies a lot about little things and doesn’t really make a big deal of it. For example he says: “And I said, "I have been out." This is called a white lie. A white lie is not a lie at all. It is where you tell the truth but you do not tell all of the truth” (Haddon 73). This quote is him saying that he does lie. But he does not feel that it is a big deal because of the fact that they are kind of lies but kind of not. Yes I agree he is a very smart intelligent boy, but the lies and other things that he doesn’t really find bad makes him an untrustworthy narrator.
Christopher Boone is not considered a “normal” kid due to a disease called Asperger Syndrome. This however does make him very unique and allows him to have many different qualities. Two qualities stand out to me the most, brilliant and clueless. These qualities are very contradicting, but both do describe him perfectly. Christopher is brilliant. He is a genius with it comes to mathematics and takes interest in many other unique topics. “I have decided to give my chapters prime numbers 2,3,5,7,11,13 and so on because I like prime numbers”(Haddon 11). This quote shows his brilliance, passion, and uniqueness. Christopher is also clueless. He is clueless because it seems that he is very unaware of things and doesn’t understand how to handle certain situations properly. Christopher takes a passion in many things, and on the other hand, he makes it clear what he dislikes. He likes animals such as dogs, policemen and their uniforms, prime numbers, and capital cities. However, he has many dislikes, lies, jokes, the colors yellow and brown, and people who yell at him or touch him.
ReplyDeleteChristopher Boone is an “unreliable narrator.” He is unreliable because he does not understand the emotions of others. “If I don’t know what someone is saying, I ask them what they mean or I walk away”(Haddon 3). This allows for the reader to understand what is going better than Christopher himself at times. Even though Christopher seems completely trustworthy, his inability to understand people’s feelings and emotions causes him to be an unreliable narrator.
Christopher is different from the “normal” standard we hold to everyone today. If someone does something against the “normal” we are adjusted to, we label them as “weird” or “strange”. Christopher is a 15 year old boy with Asperger’s Syndrome. He hates anything yellow and brown, loves the logical side of everything, hates being touched, and does not understand jokes. He loves math, and does not lie. Christopher says, “ I know all the countries of the world and their capital cities and every prime number up to 7,057.”. (Haddon 2)
ReplyDeleteChristopher says, “I do not tell lies. Mother used to say that this was because I was a good person. But it is not because I am a good person. It is because I can’t tell lies.” (Haddon 19) I think this makes him a reliable character because you know he does not like lies. It makes the reader feel safe because it demonstrates that he has nothing to hide. Christopher also is very honest when communicating with others and I think that that demonstrates his credibility.

ReplyDeleteChristopher is a 15 year old boy, he has asperger's syndrome and is the narrator of this novel. Some stuff he likes are prime numbers, red cars, honesty not lying. His dislikes are he hates being touched, doesn’t like the colors yellow and brown. His personality, he is mathematically gifted, and gets scared easily. His relationship with his father is a loved relationship his dad is always there for him and always will be, his father loves him and cares for him. His relationship with other people aren't that great he gets scared from other people that he doesn’t know.
“I do not like people shouting at me. It makes me scared that they are going to hit me or touch me and I do not know what is going to happen.” This means in his voice he hates other people he doesn't know and doesn't like when someone shoutes at him because he thinks they are going to hurt hurt him. “I think prime numbers are like life.” He says this because he thinks that they are very logical and you could never work out rules, no matter if you spend forever thinking about them. I think Christopher is a very reliable narrator he tells the truth about him and others, He is really showing us what it is like to be in his shoes.

ReplyDeleteChristopher is a fifteen year old boy. He is a very intelligent in a way that others do not understand. He has a disability called asperger's syndrome. This causes him to be very observant and very intelligent in certain areas. Some of the areas that he is talented in is math and science. Although he is very skilled in certain areas, there are certain areas that he struggles in. He hates when people touch him and he tends to panic when they do. A quote that shows Christopher’s intelligence is when she says, “And when the universe has finished exploding, all the stars will slow down, like a ball that has been thrown into the air, and they will come down to a halt and they will all begin to fall toward the center of the universe again”(10). This quote shows that Christopher is deeply intelligent and thinks of the world in a deeper way than most people. He also has a very difficult time understanding metaphors that many people use on the daily. For example Christopher says, “it is when you describe something by using a word for something that it isn’t. This means that the word metaphor is a metaphor. I think it should be called a lie because a pig is not like a day and people do not have skeletons in their cupboards”(15). This quote shows Christopher’s confusion to metaphors due to his tendency to take sentences literally. Christopher has many layers to his personality that some people may find confusing.
Christopher’s relationship with other characters is very difficult. Other people have an extremely hard time understanding Christopher. Christopher also has an extremely hard time understanding other people due to his difficulty of being able to recognize facial expressions. An example of this is when Christopher explains “It was very difficult to decide which of the diagrams was most like the face they were making because people’s faces move very quickly”(3). This quote explains how figuring out people’s expressions isn’t as easy as it is for the rest of us. Since Christopher absolutely can’t stand being touched, he tends to hit people and panic when someone does so. This causes people to accuse him of being a violent person and not understand why he gets so mad. An example is when Christopher says, “The policeman took hold of my arm and lifted me onto my feet. I didn’t like him touching me like this. And this is when I hit him”(8). This quote shows Christopher’s tendency to hit and get very upset when people touch him. This upset the police officer because it made him think that Christopher is violent and not truly understand him.
I think that Christopher is an unreliable narrator. Christopher only tells the story from his perspective. This makes him extremely unreliable because he is excluding all of the other characters thoughts and input on the situation. What is being told in the story may not be what is really happening. Since Christopher has Asperger's Syndrome it could cause him to be unreliable due to his inability to see the reality of some situations. Another reason why Christopher may be unreliable is because the story is told in first person.

ReplyDeleteChristopher John Francis Boone is a 15 year old who has been diagnosed with asperger's who is good at math and knows most of the prime numbers. He likes math because there's always a solution to every problem. The book is written by Mark Haddon “ the curious incident of the dog in the night-time”. Christopher likes dogs “you can tell what they are thinking easy to understand, they don't lie” (Haddon 3) . His dislikes when people touch him , also the color brown and yellow. Christopher personality is he always tells the truth , he finds people really confusing when they use metaphor being sarcastic he never get them and doesn't think they're funny. His relationship with other is he is really close with his father and siobhan which is a school therapist. I think christopher is an unreliable character it’s first person told from one side of the story and can not be completely accurate.

ReplyDeleteChristopher James Francis Boone is a 15 year old boy who may seem a little different. Mark Haddon writes The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime in the eyes of a boy who has Asperger’s syndrome. Boone likes numbers and logical explanations of why things are the way they are. “I know all the countries of the world and their capital cities and every prime number up to 7,057” (Haddon 2). Boone really likes logical explanations and mathematics is very straight-forward. Boone also has trouble figuring out people’s facial expressions in everyday life. “I got Siobhan to draw lots of these faces and then write down next to them exactly what they meant. But it was very difficult to decide which of the diagrams was most like the face they were making because people’s faces move very quickly” (Haddon 3). Boone had trouble getting along with people, however Siobhan was the one person he really confided in.

ReplyDeleteChristopher Boone is the protagonist of the of the award winning novel, The Curious Incident of a Dog in the Nighttime. Christopher’s cross to bare is mental illness called Asperger's Syndrome. Throughout the story he is aware of his disability. He does not let it hold him back though. Inimically he uses it to excel in academics like math, science, and memorization. “My name is Christopher John Francis Boone. I know all the countries of the world and their capital cities and every prime number up to 7,507”(3.1). The reader can understand Christopher’s personality through the literal sense in this passage. The audience immediately can tell that christopher is a straightforward guy and that his disability enhances his focus.
The condition also affect his social behavior, but in a more unfortunately way. Christopher has an arduous time reading people and expressing his emotions verbally. “And I don't know what some hardness, perhaps of eye means, and I'm not interested in faces”(107.11). In this passage expresses the author’s intent. He wants to tell the audience that Christopher’s condition makes it extremely difficult to detect emotions on people’s faces.
Christopher lives alone with his father and occasionally visits his counsellor, who helps him with his struggles. His illness also makes reading novels difficult for him, so he decides to write his own. Some of the things Christopher likes are prime numbers, writing his novel, solving mysteries, and walking around very late at night. Some things that Christopher dislikes is physical touching, yelling, and yellow cars for some odd reason. I hope this blog helps anybody who wants understand the character of Christopher Boone.

ReplyDeleteParagraph one
Topic sentence: Christopher's personality
Background: Likes/Dislikes, Personality
The curious incident of the Dog in the night time describes main character during the past century around 1998 in England. The novel is about main character Christopher John Francis Boone who has rare type of autism called Asperger's syndrome. He uncovers us his story and his problems focused on finding the reason of death dog, as an unreliable narrator offers us his story, feelings and problems which face him.
Paragraph Two
Christophers likes/dislikes, personality and relationship with other characters:
When I read the book at first time I thought Christopher is normal boy from somewhere who tries to figure out dog its death. His pensive behaviour was explained after couple lines when he uncovers his problem to understand face expressions or sarcasm because is really hard for him imagine what people mean when they speak.
He says: ,, Then she drew some other picture but I was unable to say what these meant.” Even if he does not mention his problem by real name, autism, everyone can figure out what is going on. We also can observe his problem to understand the metaphors or his fixation on topic, mainly misunderstanding people especially his father. This caused that he hates social interaction and he rather avoids talking to people, even in school when he named his classmates stupid peers or something like this. He also hates chatting what other people love, he thinks it is senseless. He also mentioned couple things he really does not like for example: jokes, people, lies, the colour brown or yellow, being touched or death bodies.
The fact, that he has an autism made him brilliant at math or counting numbers or science. He likes counting and playing with numbers especially he mentions and explains prime numbers. He also really likes animals especially dogs, when police arrived and policeman asked him where he had been holding the dog he
Answered: ,, I like dogs !” Christopher also owns rat, Toby, his pet animal who is Christophers good “friend”. Cristopher mentioned many things what he likes for example, at the beginning when police arrived he said he liked police uniforms, then he also like red colour (red cars..)
Christopher at the end of book is really proud of himself because he found his mother, got perfect grades and he could write a novel. His novel successes all figures of unreliable narrator because he mentions only his story from first person.
Great post,Thanks for providing us this great knowledge,Keep it up.A good blog.
